Gabe Abernathy founded Star Electric in 2004 with a foundation of honesty and quality craftsmanship. Twenty years on, we are a 14-person leadership team across two Montana offices - Kalispell HQ and Missoula - running commercial, multi-family, and industrial electrical projects from design phase through final inspection.
Today, President & CEO Steve Waatti runs the day-to-day. Every job gets a dedicated project manager and an on-site electrician. Schedules kept. Change-orders handled cleanly. No surprises. The same standard, on every project, since 2004.

How does Star Electric scope a commercial project?
Every job starts with a walk-through and a conversation with the project manager. From there we coordinate with your design team, build the estimate, handle bonding where required, and hand the project plan to a dedicated PM and on-site electrician for the build. You always know who is accountable for the work.
What is a typical project timeline?
Commercial fit-outs run weeks to a few months. Multi-family builds usually run several months in coordination with the GC's schedule. Industrial installs depend entirely on scope. We give a realistic timeline at estimate and keep you posted at every milestone.
How are change-orders handled?
Through your project manager, in writing, with cost and timeline impact stated up front. We do not start change-order work until you sign off - and we never bury surprise charges in a final invoice.
Are you licensed and insured in Montana?
Yes - Star Electric of Montana is a fully licensed and insured electrical contractor in the state of Montana. We can provide our certificates of insurance and license number on request.
Do you handle multi-family electrical from design through final inspection?
Yes. We have a dedicated multi-family team that runs apartment and condominium projects from planning and estimating through on-site execution and final inspection - every unit, every meter, every panel.
What about industrial scopes - what is the largest you take on?
Our industrial team is equipped to handle projects of any scale. We have run plant and warehouse work where precision and safety are non-negotiable. Talk to our team about your scope and we will tell you honestly whether it is a fit.
Are after-hours emergencies available?
Star Electric runs Monday-Friday business hours from both offices: Kalispell 7am-4pm, Missoula 8am-5pm. We are not a 24-hour emergency service. Existing clients with active projects should reach their PM directly for urgent issues.
Do you serve outside Kalispell and Missoula?
Yes - across Northwest Montana, including Whitefish, Columbia Falls, Bigfork, Polson, Lakeside, Somers, Lolo, Stevensville, and Frenchtown. If your project is somewhere we have not listed, call us - we probably already serve it.
